Festival of Service Learning Successes in Montenegro was held on November 9th, 2018 in Ethno Jazz Club Sejdefa in Podgorica. The event gathered more than 90 participants.
During the festival, 45 young people had the opportunity to present results of nine projects implemented in local communities and through which they managed to restore the playground, open a youth club in school, write a manual, organize language classes with asylum seekers, make a photo exhibition and much more... This was followed by the introduction of the Service Learning Manual in Montenegro, which contains our experiences and recommendations, as well as a video about the process of project implementation.
The aim of the project is to contribute to the introduction of the concept of service learning in the educational system of Montenegro in cooperation with the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Montenegro, the Faculty of Visual Arts of the University of the Mediterranean and the Directorate for Youth- Ministry of Sport.
Service Learning is a form of learning which contributes to better knowledge of topics included in the curriculum and allows at the same time its application for development of local community. Through service learning, young people have the opportunity to apply in practice gained knowledge through formal education and to develop their own ideas, to build their own capacities. The project included a group of students from partner faculties, as well as a group of high school students with whom we conducted two three-day trainings, after which they were divided into nine groups which examined community needs, designed and implemented the aforementioned projects.
