Within the framework of the project supported by the American Embassy, Forum MNE realised the capacity building training The Role of Young People in Prevention of Radicalism and Violent Extremism. The training was attened by 30 young people (15-18 years old) from Rožaje, Plav, Gusinje and Berane.
This was one of the two trainings to be held within the project. The aim of the capacity building events is to equip participants with knowledge and skills on how to mobilise young people so as to be able to spend their free time in a structured and creative ways.
The topics covered were: free time of young people and how to organise it in a structured way; management of activities for youth implemented in out-of-school settings; how to ensure that young people participate in additional activities and in decision making on local level, etc. The project envisages establishment of local committees in three municipalities that will, in close liaison with each other and local authorities in all three municipalities, provide guidance, coordination and assistance as to ensure that there are sufficient additional activities that can engage young people in various ways and thus decrease the possibilities for their involvement in some other activities (primarily those related to radicalisation and violent extremism) that do not contribute to their social and personal growth.
The goal of the project is to contribute to the process of fighting extremism and radicalisation in the northern part of Montenegro through direct Community Youth Work with as the main vulnerable group in this field. At the same time, one of the very important aspects will be conducting and publishing of the Research on perceptions risks and threats on radicalisation among youth in Montenegro. The added value of the project is the fact that the partners are Directorate for Youth and Sportsthat tackles this issue on national level and co-finance the project and NGO Građanska inicijativa mladih Rožaje, the organization that tackles this issue directly with young people on the local level.
